WIGGLE, GIGGLE, & GROW Ages 2 – 3
Mondays, 2:30pm – 3:30pm
In this creative drama class, little ones will learn to express themselves both verbally and physically through the use of action songs, fingerplays, and storybooks. They will also work on fine and gross motor skills while engaging with props such as scarves, rhythm instruments, puppets, and bubbles. Wiggle, Giggle and Grow is a parent and child class, so what better way to bond with your child than spending an hour eating like a hungry caterpillar, roaring like a wild thing, or swimming like a fish together? (Adult participation is required, so be ready to get silly! Your toddler will love it!)

IMAGINATION EXPLORATION: NIGHT Ages 4 – 5

Mondays, 4:00pm – 5:00pm
In this creative drama class for young actors, we’ll discover that any time is the right time to use your imagination – even after dark! Join Ms. Megan in exploring the world under the stars as we activate our bodies and voices. Swoop through the sky like an owl, ice skate and sled like a snowman, and dance with the moon as we bring some nighttime themed stories to life. Then get ready to impress your families because parents will be invited to the last class of the session as the students showcase one of our nighttime narratives!

IMAGINATION EXPLORATION: DAY Ages 4 – 5
Mondays, 4:00pm – 5:00pm
Spring brings longer days and more sunshine, so let’s celebrate the new season by acting out some daytime themed stories! Students will further develop their ensemble and communication skills as they work together to imagine just about anything under the sun. Through drama games and exercises, we will explore how to use our bodies and voices to seize the day! Students will show off all they have learned at the end of the session with a short showcase performance of a sunlit story for parents and family.

ACTING BASICS Kindergarten – Grade 2

Through a variety of theatre games and exercises students learn how to work together as a cast and create fun characters by using their imagination, movements, and voices. Students also have the opportunity to develop their performance skills with stories, poems, and monologues. This class culminates in an in-studio performance.

In this class, students develop their acting skills through exercises in storytelling and movement. Students will be encouraged to use their creativity to develop characters in scenes and monologues, culminating in a final in-class performance.

In this class, students develop the foundation of acting through games and exercises in character objectives and development. Script analysis and scene work encourage students to work together as a cast. This class culminates in an in-studio performance

ACTING ENCORE Grades 8 – 12
Saturdays, 11:00am – 12:30pm
For the first time at Metropolis, High School students are invited to their own exclusive drama workshop. Students will have the opportunity to develop their skills, learn new techniques, and have a whole lot of fun while surrounded by like-minded teen theatre students. This class will culminate in an in-studio performance for friends and family. We’re psyched to announce a reimagined class specifically designed to prep students for our production of Mean Girls this summer. Led by Metropolis’ long-time professional casting director, Robin Hughes, Acting Encore will hone student’s acting chops and ensure their best audition ever this summer!

ACTING BOOTCAMP Grades 2-4
Tuesdays, 5:30pm – 6:30pm
In this six week bootcamp for young actors, students will learn about the basics of acting and character development through play. Basic theater vocabulary will be taught. Each week, students will engage in a variety of theater games and ensemble building activities. Focus will be on having fun with character development and fostering creativity, imagination and self esteem. Students will work on short monologues, scenes, and poems.

AUDITION WORKSHOP Grades 5 – 8
Tuesdays, 6:30pm – 7:30pm
In this six week acting workshop, students will focus on the audition process from start to finish. This includes monologue and song preparation, and scene work for callbacks. Students will practice ensemble skills through scene study and a variety of theater games designed for the growing actor.

Our favorite movies have turned into fierce, funny, and epic musicals! In this class, students will continue to develop the advanced skills it takes to perform in movies-turned-musicals like Mean Girls, The Addams Family, and Beetlejuice. In this class, you will learn the fundamental techniques and many styles of Broadway dance, designed to enhance rhythm, flexibility, and coordination. Led by our expert instructor, you will be guided through a series of dynamic warm-ups, across-the-floor exercises, and exhilarating dance combinations inspired by iconic Broadway shows!

Students will learn the fundamentals of improvisation such as developing skills in spontaneity, storytelling, listening, character creation, agreeing with all choices made by fellow players, and building onto new ideas through a variety of different improv games and exercises each week. Our students will be encouraged to “make mistakes” in order to build confidence and other helpful life skills that will transcend the classroom!

This program introduces the fundamentals of singing in a group as well as basic music theory and listening skills. This class prepares students for private voice lessons!

INTRODUCTION TO GUITAR Grades 2 – 6

This class will introduce the basic beginning skills that any young guitar student will need to get started including: how to hold a guitar, how to use both left and right hand correctly, strumming chords, playing melodies, finger-picking and more. Guitars can be rented for a small fee for those who do not have their own instrument.

Mean Girls High School Version

Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady and her friends devise a “Revenge Party” to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.
