ACTING PROGRAM

The Acting Program improves our students’ ability to grow within ensembles and also as individual artists. Young actors gain self awareness and confidence and work toward mastering a set of skills that are valuable, fun and develop the imagination.

Acting Process

Through varied approaches that include games, exploratory exercises, acting theories, and building of specific vocal and physical techniques, students work on their skills as actors and communicating through a common vocabulary.

Acting Performance

Building on the technique that is learned in the process class, students have the opportunity to explore scripts and original work culminating in a performance piece.

*Acting Process is a prerequisite before taking Acting Performance at each age level.


MUSIC THEATRE PROGRAM

The Musical Theatre Program provides our students with an opportunity to truly hone their skills as singers, actors and dancers.

Musical Theater Process

Through this program, students will be able to build as an ensemble as well as hone their music reading skills, gain self confidence, and be exposed to a wide variety of lyricists, styles of music and choreography.

Building on the technique that is learned in the process class, students have the opportunity to explore scripts, songs and original work culminating in a performance piece.

*Musical Theatre Process is a prerequisite before taking Musical theatre Performance at each age level.

Theatre Studio Program (TSP)

This intensive program is for dedicated students seeking an advanced track focusing on scene study, character development, voice and movement skills and developing musicality. Acceptance into TSP has specific requirements: Metropolis Teacher recommendation and 2 prior drama classes at Metropolis. After a panel of faculty review eligible students, 8-10 students per age group will be selected and notified via mail of their acceptance into TSP. A year-long commitment to the program is expected.




PRIVATE COACHING

Whether you’re a professional actor, looking to break into the field or auditioning for college admission, this thorough, intimate learning experience is for you. You’ll receive one-on-one instruction from our top-notch coaches who will help perfect your audition pieces and provide constructive feedback. We offer private coaching in acting, voice, scene study and Alexander Technique*. Weekly sessions or one-time coaching sessions are available for monologues, scene work and audition song and dances.

*ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE
Professional actors have been using this technique for decades and now’s your chance to master the technique as well. Through this movement-based approach, you’ll learn to free your voice and breath, as well as release your muscle tension – which will give you the edge you need for auditions and performances.
