About the Dance Studio
In our Dance Studio Program, you’ll gain a strong foundation and understanding of dance technique in ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary and theatrical dance. This summer, you will have the opportunity to explore these foundations of dance through fun themes that will culminate in a costumed performance on stage!
DANCE STUDIOS
The Metropolis Dance Studio offers students a fun yet encouraging environment to work on technique and artistic development.
Starlights Dance Studio (Grades K-2)
Pre-Ballet/Beginner Tap
This combined class is where students begin their dance education journey. Students explore the foundations of ballet and tap technique, vocabulary, rhythm and coordination while also fostering creative movement and expression.
Ballet
This is the next step for Pre-Ballet students or students with previous experience. Students will intensively explore ballet technique and vocabulary in a more traditional ballet class, while still having the freedom to create and experiment with newly learned skills.
Pre-Jazz
Students will have their first experience in the classic technique of jazz while having the opportunity to link it to its ballet roots. Students will experiment with lines, shapes, rhythm and levels as they learn combinations and create in this open and engaging class.
Boys Only Studio
This class will explore the foundations of dance technique by combining a variety of genres that focus on using shape, weight exchange, balance, energy and rhythm. Boys will be able to use their explosive and physical nature to express themselves in a positive and encouraging environment.
Footlights Dance Studio (Grades 3-5)
The Footlights Dance Studio takes a creative and engaging approach to dance training to present dance as an expressive art form. This comprehensive approach will explore multiple styles of dance. Students learn the foundations of ballet and jazz, but also have exposure to other styles such as hip hop, tap, lyrical, and musical theater. This is a necessary class for students continuing in dance, as well as students looking to develop a foundation of dance technique and understanding.
Spotlights & Limelights Dance Studio (Grades 6-12)
The Spotlights & Limelight Dance Studio introduces students to the complex concepts that are the foundation of all disciplines of dance. Students will jump into exploration as they build an expansive vocabulary and understanding of dance qualities and techniques. Like no other program, students at this level get to combine the technical (ballet, jazz and other styles) with the creative (dance concepts). Students have the chance to analyze and experience dance from the view point of the choreographer while improving their technique and learning how to express themselves through various dance styles and genres.
