About the Dance Studio Program
In our Dance Studio Program, you’ll gain a strong foundation and understanding of dance technique in ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary and theatrical dance. This summer, you will have the opportunity to explore these foundations of dance through fun themes that will culminate in a costumed performance on stage!
DANCE STUDIO PROGRAMS
We are excited to introduce our RECITAL SUMMER SESSION to the dance studio program. In the Fall and Spring sessions, students work on technique and artistic development. In the summer 2010 session, those students focus on the process of creating a live PERFORMANCE with a grand recital in August. To participate in the Recital Summer Session, students should be registered and building skills year round.

Pre-Ballet/Beginner Tap
This combined class is where students begin their dance education journey. Students explore the foundations of ballet and tap technique, vocabulary, rhythm and coordination while also fostering creative movement and expression.

This is the next step for Pre-Ballet students or students with previous experience. Student will intensively explore ballet technique and vocabulary in a more traditional ballet class, while still having the freedom to create and experiment with newly learned skills.
Pre-Jazz
Students will have their first experience in the classic technique of jazz while having the opportunity to link it to its ballet roots. Students will experiment with lines, shapes, rhythm and levels as they learn combinations and create in this open and engaging class.
Boys Only Studio
This year, Metropolis is offering a K-2 dance class for Boys Only! This class will explore the foundations of dance technique by combining a variety of genres that focus on using shape, weight exchange, balance, energy and rhythm. Boys will be able to use their explosive and physical nature to express themselves in a positive and encouraging environment.

Spotlights & Limelights Dance Studio Workshop Series
Ballet Bootcamp
Need to catch up on technique? Are you working on your school musical, preparing for an audition, or just want more dance background? In Ballet Bootcamp you will learn technique, build strength and increase your flexibility as you begin to understand the basics of ballet. Gain vocabulary and see how ballet influences your understanding of dance and movement. This class will be taught by a rotating panel of dance professionals. Learn from the best and get an edge on your growth as an artist and performer.
Rhythm Slam Step, Body Drumming, and Hip Hop
This interactive, engaging approach to Hip Hop combines rhythm and dance. Students will build coordination, musicality and confidence through dance, “stomping” and percussion and in ways that build ensemble and team work. Students learn rhythm foundations and sound creation while learning dance basics and will gain a better understanding and vocabulary of dance. The combination of all these elements results in one amazing experience!
Tap/Jazz Combo
Tap and Jazz are the essential combination to introduce students to the two main styles of musical theatre dance. This class will work to improve technique of the more experienced dancer or act as an introduction for a new student. Integrate rhythm into all you do and learn how to translate it into the taps on your feet or the jazz in your body. Experience the lines and discipline of jazz and percussion and energy of tap.
