Letter from the Executive Director

Here we are, just barely into the season and we have our biggest selling theatrical performance ever (and second to any Metroplis show after Ron Hawking). I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change was so successful we extended it by three weeks to meet demand. Back in August when we made our final casting decisions we knew we had something pretty special on our hands and are delighted that so many people have enjoyed it.

We’ve also had many other shows either completely sold-out or near capacity including Defending the Caveman, Kristy Cates, the BoDeans and Dates from Hell – this latter show proving again that Arlington Heights and the Northwest Suburbs do in fact want to see edgy, late-night comedy.

At our School of the Performing Arts we had an incredible summer with over 900 students participating in our summer camps and High School Performance Experience, and things are looking great for our Snowed-In On Stage Winter Camp in December. But probably the biggest news in SOPA is the contribution of Wicked Star Kristy Cates. Ms. Cates held an Audition workshop for teens and adults, giving them an opportunity to improve their auditioning skills and get feedback about auditioning – from a Broadway Star!

But this success is collaborative – it wouldn’t happen without you. We’re lucky to be in a community that is so supportive of the arts. So as another benefit to you, we have relaunched our newsletter to take you behind the scenes and make it more fun and informative. We have added engaging interviews and inside stories from all that’s going on in our Theatre and our School of Performing Arts. Titled re:create, this first issue of the 06/07 season starts off with a fascinating interview with the husband wife team who performed in I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. Michael Ingersoll went directly from Metropolis to the National Broadway Tour of Jersey Boys and wife Angela was just nominated for a JEFF Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in The Secret Garden at Porchlight Music Theatre.

As with everything we do in the community, we invite you to send us your thoughts and ideas on what content we can produce that will be interesting to you, as this new online magazine/newsletter grows. Please send us story ideas and thoughts on the magazine to info@metropolisarts.com

Again, many thanks for your support. We can’t wait to see you back at the theatre.

Sincerely,
Tim Rater
