Metropolis performs "Anne Frank"

Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, which has attracted family audiences to its Stories in Action through touring productions, is presenting its first self-produced play in the series, "The Diary of Anne Frank," April 13-21 at 111 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights.

Annie Sisson Rezac, director of education, proposed this project because Anne Frank's story "is heavily imbedded in the curriculum of almost all schools. The Holocaust, World War II and the time the Jews were going into hiding is relevant because there is still genocide going on today."

The show is recommended for fifth-graders through adults. Rezac said telling this story "is crucial for students to gain empathy and understanding of what people like them went through and are still going through."

Rezac suggested that parents prepare their children for this play by visiting www.annefrank.org. "That Web site is terrific because it has the history and photos of the annex where the Frank family hid," Rezac said. There are also photos of pages from the diary, "So, it's very tangible for kids."

Tickets are $12, $9.50 for ages 12 and under.
